E-volved Table at Biënnale INTERIEUR 2012
08 ottobre 2012
Kortrijk Xpo has been the home of the Biennale Interieur since its first edition back in 1968. This year the programme expands into the city of Kortrijk, but the Xpo fairground will stay a firm base with 300 carefully selected international design brands. Within the context of the 2012 vision 'Biennale in the city, city in the Biennale', the map of the Xpo has been transformed into a city plan, with a grid of streets and diagonal lanes that lead on to piazza's where true city life will unfold.
Along the lanes and on the piazza's, visitors will be surprised and confronted with exhibitions and specially commissioned 'Future Primitives' project rooms, share impressions, discuss and network with colleagues in a variety of custom-designed bars, check out our library and discover top design brands and design galleries that are relevant in the market today. In short, a perfect balance between commerce and culture.

The E-volved table at Déjà-vu: an exhibition about design affiliations
Design is generally associated with creativity and innovation. If an object is not innovative, in theory, it’s not design. How is it then that on first seeing design objects, we often ask ourselves: “Hey, is that new, haven’t I seen this before?” In 2007 Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa designed an aluminium chair for Italian company Magis. It was called Déjà-Vu. In daily speech we use the term loosely forthings that we have already seen. But the scientifically more accepted explanation is that a sense of déjà vu is caused by misperception. Is it true that more and more design objects look more and more alike or is this just another instance of misperception? Objects that independently could easily trigger a déjà vu are deliberately juxtaposed in the exhibition. Their physical proximity allows us to put any vague impression to the test. Does this bring about a paradigm shift? Does it cause fundamental changes in our attitudes to concepts like originality and innovation? This exhibition would like to open the debate.
As part of this special exhibition FueraDentro will have the E-volved table at display. The design, by the German designer Timothy Schreiber, is evocative of natural forms, which results in a truly unique piece of sculptural art. In 2007 Timothy Schreiber won a Red Dot Award for his design of the E-volved table, which is organic in its composition and looks yet smooth to the touch. The design of the E-volved table was conceived from the natural process of "growth". The graceful, fluid design of this round dining table mimics the organic forms of nature as the three table legs grow and branch together to form a solid and stable base on which the transparent table top rests. The extra clear transparent glass allows this unique table to be admired from all angles.
