Crowne Plaza Doha – The Business Park on track to open in quarter three 2012

With construction of the 378-room Crowne Plaza Doha – The Business Park nearing completion, and the opening scheduled for quarter three 2012, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani yesterday welcomed 150 guests to the hotel for a preview of the facilities soon to be on offer.

Located in the heart of Doha’s banking district, and just two kilometres from Doha International Airport, the hotel is a key part of the new Business Park and will feature 282 hotel rooms and suites and 96 one to two bedroom residents’ suites.

The hotel’s striking 3150 sqm Event Centre, housed in a glass globe at the centre of The Business Park, will become a focal point for guests and local companies conducting business inDoha. The Event Centre will offer guests the choice of two ballrooms, an exhibition hall and two meeting rooms.

The hotel will also feature a boardroom, six meeting rooms, as well as an all-day dining restaurant, lobby lounge, Brazilian lounge bar and Churrascaria restaurant, fitness centre, rooftop swimming pool with poolside dining and spa.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani said “Crowne Plaza Doha – The Business Park is in the final stages of completion and is due to open in the third quarter of the year. This project has been a number of years in the making and is a project I am very proud of. Today we’re taking the opportunity to showcase what the hotel will offer and thank those who have been such an important part of making it happen.”

The hotel, owned by the Trans Orient Establishment, was signed in 2008. The Trans Orient team, led by Dr Ahmed Obaidan, General Manager, and Mr Fathi Abu Rish, Executive Manager, then began construction of the project in mid-2009. For one day only the hotel opened its doors for a select group of dignitaries, clients and guests to meet the team, and take a look around the hotels’ facilities, which will be open to all later in the year.

Ignace Bauwens, Vice President, UAE, Near East and Africa commented “This will be an iconic Crowne Plaza in the Middle East and that is reflected in the design, and quality finish, of the hotel that Trans Orient Establishment has built.”

He continued, “Our hotel management team are in place, led by our General Manager Savino Leone, and recruitment and training has already begun for the 300 employees who will work in the hotel, so we’re on track to greet our first guest very soon.”

IHG has 110 hotels across India, Middle East and Africa, operating under the InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites brands. The company has more than 80 hotels in the region’s development pipeline which are due to open over the next three to five years, 16 of which are Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts.
